Recently, the public has increasing interest in cervical cancer. The government implements cervical cancer vaccination (NIP) starting from June, 2016 and free checkups for women over 20 years old.

According to statistical yearbook of National Health Insurance Corporation, there were 3,311 cases of cervical cancer in 2013, and 3,178 cases in 2014 which means the occurrence is steadily decreasing. However, the precancerous stage patients are increasing, and since there are no significant symptoms available to detect at the early stage, people simply ignores the trivial symptoms.

The representative screening method is cytology test, but according to National Cancer Information Center, its accuracy reaches approximately 50% and it has limitation to be considered as a sole test. In order to supplement the accuracy, TeleCervico(cervicography) is recommended. TeleCervico is a screening test which enlarges cervical image up to 50 times and interprets morphologically within 24 hours by expertized evaluators.

Oncology Report in 2013 said that TeleCervico has high sensitivity of 94.3% when conducted solely as cervical cancer screening test, and 98.1% when combined with cytology.
According to the current medical service law, only the medical care provider has authority to access patients’ information. Lately, there was an illegal incident that some clinics and hospitals provided patients’ information to a medical appliance manufacturing company. It is important to remember that cervicography should be conducted only by qualified evaluators and medical institutes.

Most importantly, you need to be aware that in order to effectively prevent cervical cancer, regular health care and periodical screening test is necessary.
